ART WORKSHOP

Art workshop is an advanced-level art course based around a theme. This year's theme is street art, which is a global art movement featuring artists' use of their immediate surroundings (i.e. the streets) as their canvases. The movement is similar to graffiti, yet employs a wide variety of media and techniques. Students created art using techniques used in street art, however did not create art illegally and the issue of art and ethics was discussed.

Metaphoric Self Portraits

Transforming places: Packaging Tape Sculpture

Cultural Icon 'Bombing' Campaign

Students created metaphoric self portraits in which they represent themselves with a visual metaphor that reveals an aspect of their identities. These are mixed-media pieces on wood generally at least 36" x 36"

Students developed cultural icons that make a statement about the culture in which they reside. They screen printed the images on t-shirts and also onto a location they painted on canvas where their image was tagged, akin to street artists tagging a stencil.

In small groups, students created life-sized packaging tape sculptures of themselves. The sculpture were placed in the school with the idea of calling attention to, or transforming places.
